Animal, Vegetable or Mineral? That's the traditional first question for the game 20 Questions. It's a game that confounds mathematicians, psychologists and artificial intelligence geeks, at least, until now.
Here is a Web version of 20 Questions that is sure to amaze you. If you are superstitious you would call this thing an oracle. If your thinking is more in the realm of science, you will marvel at the programing. This game is amazingly accurate at guessing what's in your mind in a mere 20 questions.
Okay, we''ll confess that occasionally it takes a couple more questions than twenty to unravel your thoughts but it is uncanny in it's accuracy. After each round the game also gives you feedback regarding how it's opinion varied from yours and it list similar objects to the solution. If it guesses wrong it is usually quite close to the correct solution. How does it do it? It's Magic! or it could be some really clever AI programming.
We like this game for the sheer joy of seeing how amazed people are at it's accuracy. Also you could use it to cheat while playing 20 questions in a chat room, not that WE would EVER do anything like THAT. ;-)
