An argument could be made that the Japanese are the masters of the difficult puzzle game. Sokoban, being the classic example. Today's featured game may look cute and easy but it is deviously difficult. And for people who like puzzle games, difficult is good.

Today's game is the first in a series of Animal maze puzzle games and it's titled Animal Maze 1. Perhaps the fancy title got lost in translation. Anyway, the object is to help a poor monkey get across a shark infested pool by placing blocks of terra firma that will give the little fellow a path across the pond. Forming a continuous path is no easy task and you have only 8 blocks with no idea of what the next block will be. You have to approach this game like solitaire, in that sometimes there is no solution.

The trick (if there is one) is not to paint yourself into a corner, Other than that, you just have to be patient as many of the blocks are of little use. We keep wondering if there is something that we're missing in this game. But again it's the difficulty that makes it fun.

We like this game for it's Japanese style graphics and challenging puzzle. And if you are really adventurous you can try the other animal mazes on this site, but don't expect them to be any easier.
