The Web is crowded with bad Flash games. Seems like every art student in the world feels the need to recreate some classic arcade game for a class project and then stick it up on their personal Web site.
But it doesn't take much to remake a classic and do it well. Asteroids Deep Impact from Space Shooter Games is a good example. The basic gameplay of Asteroids is intact. As a matter of fact, the game features a classic mode and a high tech mode -- a few new features.
The ships look good and the game plays smoothly even though it is Flash. There is even a little music.
The high tech mode is actually pretty fun -- not overcrowded with features like some Asteroids clones. We like the fact that the shields work automatically. Makes more sense. Who would go to the trouble of building a spaceship fighter only to have the shields be controlled manually? Really.
