No matter what you think of them, first person shooters are the most popular form of computer and console gaming. While mega-games like Doom 3 and Halo have you shooting aliens and monsters, Counter-strike has you shooting terrorist and insurgents. Counter-strike is supposedly the most popular game on the X-box right now. So it was only a matter of time before somebody tried to bring that magic to an on-line Flash game.

Today's is titled Flash-strike and is based on Counter-Strike. This game is more of a pop-up type shooter taken to the next level than it is a a true 3-D FPS, so your shooting position is static, but it does have excellently rendered environments. You have a choice of three weapons, plus some flash-bang grenades with which to dispatch the enemy. As with most pop-up shooters this game is more about target recognition speed than stealth and accuracy. The excellent graphics and sound are what sets this games apart from other similar games.

The key to this game is utilizing all of the options available to you. You can just stand up and shoot away like John Wayne or you can play it smart by choosing the right weapon, ducking and using your flash-bangs to freeze the enemy. Using the AWP sniper rifle gets you a scope view for more accurate long shots but limits your field of view. We prefer the M-4 for most situations. As far as the pistol goes, save it in case you run out of ammo on the other weapons.

We like this game because as a pop-up type shooter, it's the best that we've seen. Just don't compare it with a real 3-D FPS like Counter-Strike.
