Almost every turn-based strategy game that involves world conquest are either direct Risk or War-Craft rip-offs or are too simple to be fun. After all, dominating a planet should take time and be difficult even in game form.
Here's a game that combine the strategy of a Risk type game but adds a few twist including nukes, bio-weapons, spies, and even propaganda. World Domination is a sophisticated strategy game that available both as a Windows shareware game and a free online game. You play this game against four AI enemy leaders and their countries. It's a turn-based game where you choose between a number of actions that you can take, from beefing up your manufacturing plants to launching a Nuke (not a good idea off the bat.)
The sheer number of choices in this game make for long and satisfying play. Conquering even one country is tough and quite gratifying to do and taking over the world, well, let's just say that Wooo Hoo, doesn't quite cut it. Not only is this a game of sheer firepower it's also about psychological warfare and ideology. Things you just don't get in your average strategy war game.
We love playing this game because it's as sophisticated as any war game out there. Set aside an evening away from the TV to play this game and unless you're careful you still might lose. We wish this game had a multi-player version and that all the features were available in the online game, but other than that, It's the mother of all turn-based war games.
