You either like chess or you don't. If you like chess, a web based game where you can play other chess lovers or just play a computer opponent is a good thing. Especially if it is well implemented.
While there are a lot of multiplayer chess games out there, Blitz Chess is executed brilliantly. Just like "real" tournament chess Blitz Chess uses a 5 minute per side timer, So you're not stuck waiting forever for your opponent to play. You can also play against a fairly smart computer opponent to wile away the hours and hone your skills.
Blitz Chess sets itself apart from other multiplayer chess games in that it does not require the player to register. Instead any player joining the game is given a temporary avatar, making the game inviting to casual players.
It also makes it little less personal when another player kicks your butt.
