Mayan Maize

The Mayans were but one of many ancient meso-american civilizations. It was around for about three thousand years, but some of the others were around longer. It had a written language, but so did the others. It also had a really cool calendar. But then so did some of the others. Especially the Aztecs. Their calendar continues to delight children around the world. The one thing we can think of that the Mayans had that other meso-american civilizations lacked was go-carts. That's right. The Mayans had go-carts. In your face, Aztec calendar.

At least they have go-carts in Mayan Maize, a 3-D go-cart race through the land of Yum Kaxx. Like in other racing games the goal of the game is to beat your opponents to the finish line. At the beginning of the game you choose a go-carting god that you'll race as. Each has different strengths and weaknesses. Then to the starting line. Along the track are artifacts that will give you points or useful power-ups when you drive over them. You'll also run across less useful obstacles that will frustrate your goal of winning. If you win or place you'll move onto the next level. If you finish last the game will end.

First the bad; The game-play in Mayan Maize is stiff and unpolished. The go-carts felt a bit like cardboard cutouts. Their movements were choppy and lacked the ability to turn smoothly. There are other 3-D racing games that have a more satisfying feel that racing fans will enjoy more. Now the good; What makes this game worth your time to play is first, the graphics look fantastic. This is a beautiful looking game. The second, and more compelling reason to give this game a play is tthat this may be your only chance to see a corn god race a sun god dropping banana peels.
