In the fifties science fiction, especially in movies, would nine times out of ten be an allegory about the Soviet threat. But now that the Red Menace is dust in the wind we're left without any satisfyingly simple allegories to explain science fiction. ... We don't know why we're just thinking that. We just were. Try not to read anything into it.
Today's game is, Capture the Newbies, and features everyones' favorite megalomaniac alien from the planet Irk, Invader Zim. In this game Invader Zim will teleport willing players to enemy planets in order to net some contentious pests with a super-advanced weapon-of-the-future which fires nets. Try to capture as many of the bouncy bothers as you can. If you capture all that reside on a level, Zim will shower you with praise and then send you off to capture more in the next level. Just so you know. The pests bite. And your supply of nets is limited. So be sure to retrieve any nets that missed their target. You don't want to run out of nets. You'll get bet. The keyboard will move you around, and you use the mouse to aim and shoot. You can also use the space bar to fire, but we found using the mouse felt more natural.
Capture the Newbies is a first-person shooter stripped down to it's essence. Explore and shoot. The game-play is childlishly simple to learn. And if you weren't listening while the simple instructions were given, Invader Zim will gladly repeat them. The graphics in Capture the Newbies are excellent. From the lovely backgrounds to the animated characters the art in this game is splendid. Three thumbs up to the skilled artists who contributed graphics to the game. Cartoon science fiction looks great in 3D. This isn't the most intense 3D shooter you'll play. But it's not necessarily made for experienced gamers. This is a 3D romp for the kiddies. It's Baby's First Person Shooter. If you're a parent who cringes when your child sees Tom and Jerry cartoons because of the violence, uncringe your face. The guns in this game only shoot humane, alien-safe nets, and no cats get their hands flattened by mallet-wielding mice.
