We remember the first time we saw the arcade game "Battle Zone", This was a game totally different than anything we had seen before. Driving a tank across a vector graphic landscape was the coolest thing ever, and when you fired the cannon there was serious sounding explosions unlike the typical tinny arcade game sound. We don't know how many quarters we wasted hiding behind pyramid shaped mountains waiting for that perfect shot to take out the enemy tank.
Things have come a long way since those days, and the newest iteration of the classic is called War Zone 3: WWII edition and it's as exciting today as it's forefather was all those years ago. First off all you're driving a tank in in a full rendered 3-D environment that's as realistic as any other Web game out there. Add to that different levels, environments, tanks and missions and we're talkin' a first class WWII tank simulation.
In this game can control the tank as well as the turret. The battlefield has realistic terrain features as well as both enemy and friendly tanks. So be careful who you're shooting. As you complete missions from Nomandy to the Russian steppes, you get your choices of tanks. And as you can imagine each mission gets a little tougher.
We love this game because it's probably the best 3-D Tank sim on the Web. Also if you get your fill of WWII there is also a modern battlefield version, which is just as good. Yeah baby! That's the way we roll!
